A Celebration of Rex’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday July 11, 2019 at the Pulliam Funeral Home  in Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in the Block Cemetery west of Hazel Dell, IL.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday July 10, 2019 at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Oblong Fire Dept. Christmas for Kids or the Kiamichi Missions. Envelopes will be available at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.

Rex Dean Madlem, 83, Robinson, IL formerly of Oblong, IL passed away Friday July 5, 2019 at his residence. He was residing at Timber Creek Village in Robinson, IL.

Rex was born on June 24, 1936 in Paris, IL and was the son of John L. and Margaret (Shawver) Madlem. On June 26, 1955 he married Joyce Evelyn Hills. They later divorced.

Rex was a semi truck driver who carried many different types of cargo such as milk and grain. Rex farmed and raised pigs from 1964 – 1975 in Jasper County, IL. He and his Dad John owned and operated the Gulf Oil Station in Willow Hill from 1962-1964. Rex graduated from Martinsville High School with the Class of 1954. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a member of the Crawford County Saddle Club. He enjoyed spending the winters in Bibleville, TX and traveling in his motor home around the country. He enjoyed singing and listening to music but most of all Rex enjoyed helping anyone who needed help with just about anything.

Surviving Rex are his two sons and daughter-in-law Douglas Duane Madlem of Casey, IL and Tony and Susan Madlem of Oblong, IL; his daughter and son-in-law Julie Renea and Greg Nye of Oblong, IL; seven grandchildren Janis Carrie Madlem, Josh and Nikki Madlem, Jillian Jo Madlem, Gabriel and Elizabeth Madlem, Samantha and Bipin Bhosale, Erica and Tony Meese and Mitchell and Chelsea Nye and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Preceding Rex in death were his parents; one infant brother Charles and two great grandchildren Emmitt and Aubrey Meese.
